The fall is arriving on tiptoes and with whispers.  The emerging season is taking shape but for the moment the details are in pencil.  The auctions archived this week represent the last flings of summer before what will become the heady season ahead.  In November what is expected to possibly be the most expensive printed book ever sold at auction, the 1640 Bay Psalm will be offered by Sothebys in New York.  Between now and then, some 80 days plus or minus two hundred other sales will rise into the headlights to, for a few moments, command our attentions.

An early test of the map market will occur at Rachel Davis Fine Arts in Cleveland, Ohio on September 21st where 118 maps, for some 28 years the corporate collection of the Goodyear Company, will be sold.  This material includes many important rarities in the field and the sale itself is understood to be a rarity - unreserved.

This week 9 auctions were archived.  The reports are substantially correct although a few links, some of the debris from the introduction of a new version of AE on August 25th, are still being fixed.  The last bugs should be swatted by midweek.  An article about this sale was added to AE Monthly today [Sunday September 8th].
