"On Paper" from Marc Selvaggio, Bookseller

Bromo Paper came in sheets, not rolls.

Bromo Paper came in sheets, not rolls.

We conclude with some very special paper, a package of Bromo Paper from the Diamond Mills Paper Co. It is undated, but the label notes it won the "Highest Prize Awarded by the Paris Exposition 1878." Those Parisians know their paper. Bromo is "unsurpassed in quality and purity because it's made of materials that have been cooked under steam pressure for hours before being reduced to the consistency necessary for making into paper." You can tell this is not imitation Bromo Paper as each sheet has the "Bromo" watermark. For those wondering the purpose of this particular paper, the label notes it is "a perfectly pure article for the water closet." Item 69. $200.
