The Wide World of Jo Mora from Carpe Diem Fine Books

Jo Mora's "carte" of Los Angeles.

Jo Mora's "carte" of Los Angeles.

Item 2 was Mora's last book, published in 1949, two years after he died: Californios: The Saga of the Hard Riding Vaqueros, America's First Cowboys. This is a tribute to the horsemen who ran the herds for the Spanish missions long before Anglo cowboys appeared in today's American Southwest. $325.

Californios may officially be Mora's last book, but in 1995, almost 50 years after he died, his son published a children's book Mora had written and illustrated in 1936 but never published. The title is Budgee Budgee Cottontail and it is the story of this Buckaroo Bunny and various other of Mora's classic humanized animals. $25.
