Item 21 is a brochure from the Canadian Pacific Railway headed LowRateOneWayExcursionsinCanadianPacificRailwayTouristSleepingCarstothePacificCoastwithoutChange, circa 1898. Why would one want to go on an excursion west but not come back? The explanation for the one-way trips is seen in the date. This was the “Gold Train.” It provided transportation from places like Boston via Montreal on to the west coast. From their, the one-way guests could proceed north to make their fortunes during the Klondike Gold Rush. $500.
