Brassai proves that not all French nudes are as glamorous as we imagine.

Item 359 is an account of One Special Summer by the Bouvier girls. They weren't the Bouvier girls any more by the time this book was published, 22 years after the special summer of 1951. Jacqueline Bouvier was now Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, widow of a President, wife of one of the world's wealthiest men. Lee Bouvier was now the wife of Prince Radziwill, the Prince of something or other. However, it was written back in 1951, a "thank you" to their mother for allowing them to take a trip to Europe alone. This is from a limited edition of 500 copies, signed by the two authors. £ 750 (US $1,183).

 

Item 32 provides a look at The Secret Paris of the 30's. The author, and photographer of this glimpse at the sordid (or exciting, depending upon your point of view) side of Parisian life in that period when the world was rapidly going to Hell, was Brassai (actual name Gyula Halasz). Brassai was born in Hungary, but had moved to Paris many years earlier. His familiarity with the city and its nightlife enabled him to take his revealing photographs and provide the commentary, though what he saw was too riske to be published contemporaneously. Offered is a first English edition, published in 1976, and signed by the author. £ 975 (US $1,538).
