Source Title
Description Sotheby's Parke-Bernet was an interim name used in the 1970s for the New York auction house that was once Parke-Bernet, but had become an arm of London's Sotheby's after its purchase by that firm in 1964. For a while after the purchase, the house continued to operate under the Parke-Bernet name, and by the mid-1970s, Parke-Bernet was dropped and only Sotheby's name was used. Auction records for this house from the period when only the Parke-Bernet name was used are found under that name, and those from the time after that name was dropped entirely are listed under Sotheby's. Descriptions of these houses are also found under those names.
