Source Title Galerie Bassenge
Description

Galerie Bassenge of Berlin, Germany, traces its roots back to the days just after the Second World War. On November 14, 1946, with Berlin still in ruins, bookseller Gerd Rosen, who had barely survived the war due to his Jewish background, opened the Galerie Rosen. He specialized in the auction of books and art.

Rosen died in 1961, after which Gerda Bessenge, who had worked for Rosen since 1953, took over the operation. It was then renamed "Galerie Bessenge." Gerda's son Tilman Bassenge joined the firm in 1967 and manages it today. The firm has departments for books, art, and photographs. The book department holds two auctions per year, spring and fall, and as the number of records in this database under this firm indicates, they are extremely active in the field.
