Doyle New York is one of the city's major auction houses. Founded in 1962 by William Doyle, the privately held firm was still headed by members of the family almost half a century later. Doyle New York conducts around 35 auctions a year, drawing buyers and consignors from around the world. It has auctioned the estates of numerous household names such as James Cagney, Gloria Swanson, Bette Davis, Rock Hudson, Rex Harrison, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington.

Doyle regularly auctions material in categories such as fine art, jewelry, furniture, and books. Among the specialty departments maintained at Doyle is Books, Autographs, & Maps, and Prints & Posters. Doyle conducts two auctions per year in the books category, which includes autographs and maps.
