ESA 46: An opportunity to understand the future of collectible paper
- by Bruce E. McKinney
The Ephemera Society’s annual Fair in Connecticut will soon be staged at the Hyatt Regency, in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. The event opens Thursday March 19th, concluding Sunday March 22nd. Conferences will be held the 19th and 20th. Their widely followed public fair featuring 60 dealers offering ephemera to buy, is held Saturday and Sunday 3/21-22. Note: a late afternoon preview is open to Society members on Friday, 20th at 5:30-7:30 PM.
To encourage annual membership, the Ephemera Society provides early access to their events. Basic membership is $80 for those who reside in the United States. Non-US members are asked to pay $95. During Saturday and Sunday their Ephemera Fair is open to the browsing public for a nominal charge.
When they were first organized (in 1980), the very notion of ephemera seemed both obscure and remote. Today this society is thought to have 750 members. The field they encompass is quickly emerging as a primary focus for dealers, auction houses, institutions and collectors. While it is thought of as a specialist’s category, for young collectors its generally low prices provide inexpensive access for the young and casual collectors.
The Ephemera Society provides events for the interested to both browse and meet the leading dealers in the field.
