Auctions:  April in New York

Some of the major players in the world of books

The signal event for book, maps, manuscripts and ephemera collectors in America is the Antiquarian Bookseller’s Association of America’s annual New York Book Fair in April that attracts the most important dealers, institutions and collectors from across the United States and around the world.  This audience is receptive to dealer offers and auctions and has made April the fertile moment for the New York auction houses - Bonhams, Christie’s, Doyle, Heritage, Sotheby’s, and Swann to offer interesting and important material.  This year is no exception.

This April twenty auctions, an auction every thirty-six hours in the works on paper field are scheduled somewhere in New York.  For potential acquirers it’s the opportunity to wade waist-high in exceptional material.

Thursday April 5th    Christie’s.  Photographs sold to Benefit Acquisitions for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston [2543].  350 lots.

Tuesday April 10th    Christie’s.  Important Books:  The Private Library of Kenneth Nebenzahl [2622].  165 lots.  A rare night sale.

Wednesday April 11th Heritage Auctions.  Rare Books Signature Auction [6085].  267 lots
