The time of the year for new book catalogues has arrived as we welcome 23 new additions/editions for 2009. They are as varied as the fields of book collecting.
The William Reese Company celebrates the recent election with a collection on American politics. David Lesser Antiquarian Books has unusual American historic pamphlets, while Mark Selvaggio Bookseller has American pamphlets that are very unusual if not downright strange.
Clark Rare Books also features Americana, but with a tilt to the West. The West, cattle and Custer are also the focus of Old West Books. Randall House presents books from the Spalding collection of Western Americana. Gert Jan Bestebreurtje Rare Books of the Netherlands has a surprising number of works in Americana, though much from Europe as well.
Expanding our borders to the north, we find Bjarne Tokerud Bookseller offering books on Canada and the Arctic. To the south, Plaza Books presents works from Mexico and Latin America.
Among other very focused catalogues, we find Martyan Lan offering antique maps and related materials. Librairie Thomas-Scheler has a book/catalogue on rose and flower artist Pierre-Joseph Redoute. The Veatchs Arts of the Book, naturally, focuses on the book arts, the Lawbook Exchange on law and legal works. James Cummins Bookseller hones in on 19th century literature. Elysium Books offers works about Capri and other books of interest to the gay community. Stuart Lutz has a nice collection of historic (mostly signed) documents.
Among the more generalist catalogues, we find an outstanding presentation from Dragon Books, which includes a few of the most important scientific works ever published. Manhattan Rare Books also has an outstanding collection of scientific works along with literature, history and more. Thomas A. Goldwasser Rare Books has a mixture of science, literature, Americana and fine books. James Pepper Rare Books and Waverly Books offer literature and works related to film. John Michael Lang Fine Books has a little of everything. The Arader Galleries issue one of their Directors Reports of what is being featured at their various galleries.
