Item 8 is a broadside announcing the Organization of the Barque Floyd Expedition. The Stockholders Assembled at Pioneer Hall on Wednesday Evening January 31st, 1849... This meeting took place in Providence, Rhode Island, where 50 stockholders invested $350 apiece to finance the expedition. The Floyd sailed from Providence on March 5, 1849, its destination San Francisco and the California Gold Rush. While many of these types of voyages failed, this one succeeded, reaching San Francisco 76 days later, though the crew spent a difficult and cold three weeks overcoming the strong headwinds rounding Cape Horn. $2,500.

Item 112 is a spectacular collection of Mississippi River maps, Preliminary Map of the Lower Mississippi River, from the Mouth of the Ohio River to the Head of the Passes, in Thirty Two Sheets. Scale One Inch to One Mile. These maps, published from 1881-1885, were drawn by Edward Molitor, and are loaded with detail about the settlements and other features along the river. $1,750.
