To continue the theme of killers and outlaws, item 155 is George Thatcher's Why Some Men Kill or Murder Mysteries Revealed. This sounds to be somewhere between a psychological study and a good, old-time western. In reality, this 1919 book is a study of deadly crimes and trials that took place in Oregon a century ago. The author tries to understand what is going on in the minds of people who kill. $500.

For those with an interest in Arizona, here's a bargain: Arizona and Its Heritage, published in 1936. It contains a folding map and forty articles by various authors on different aspects of Arizona life. $17.50. That's less than fifty cents per article!

Item 171 is an interesting title for Texas and other collectors. Written by Marcius Willson, the title is American History, Comprising Historical Sketches of the Indian Tribes, etc....and History of Texas. This book covers a lot more ground than just Texas, but the several Texas maps and three chapters on the state are particularly notable because of the time. The book was published in 1847. Texas had joined the Union just two years earlier, and its ultimate boundaries and fate were still in doubt as the Mexican War was taking place at the time. $250.
