It is something of an oddity that one can find native foods of lands all over the world readily available in restaurants and markets across North America, but rarely does one find the cuisine of American natives. Here is an opportunity to prepare some such foods yourself: Iroquois Foods and Food Preparation by F.W. Waugh. The Iroquois inhabited large stretches of land in upstate New York and Canada at the time European settlers arrived. This book was published in 1916 by the Canada Department of Mines. Why the Department of Mines was publishing a book on Iroquois cuisine is not clear to me, but they must have had a good reason. Item 270. $120.

Mort Kunstler is one of America's most notable historical artists. His Civil War paintings are perhaps his best known, though his Americana works go well beyond this one topic. Henry Steele Commager was one of America's foremost historians of the twentieth century, having seen almost all of it (he lived from 1902-1998). Commager wrote a book on Kunstler, The American Spirit: The paintings of Mort Kunstler, published in 1985. Item 357 is a copy of this book signed and inscribed by Kunstler in gold ink to author Commager. It includes a tipped-in pencil sketch initialed by Kunstler. $200.
