Here is another pioneering work, this one in the study of ourselves: Molecular Structure of Nucleic Acids: A Structure for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid. This is the 1953 offprint of the article by James Watson and Francis Crick that introduced DNA, and the mechanism for passing on genetic traits, to the world. It had first appeared in the journal Nature, along with two related articles. Offprints of all three are herein offered. Watson and Crick later received the Nobel Prize for their work. €18,000 (US $23,293).

Svante August Arrhenius published this item in 1896: Ueber den Einfluss des atmosphärischen Kohlensäuregehalts auf die Temperatur der Erdoberfläche. This work seems far more significant today than it probably did then. It has to do with the warming of the earth's surface caused by higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Arrhenius concluded that doubling the concentration of carbon dioxide would increase the earth's temperature by 6 degrees Celsius (11 degrees Fahrenheit). His work was intended to help explain the ice ages, but now, just a century later, it is critically important to the future of the planet. €3,500 (US $4,529).
