France and America from Helen R. Kahn Rare Books

Item 24 is A Sermon Preached before His Excellency Thomas Pownall...by Rev. Samuel Cooper, published in 1759. Cooper extolled the performance British forces in the conquest of Quebec during the French and Indian War, with particular notice to Massachusetts' soldiers. Cooper's strongly pro-British attitude, like those of many of his fellow colonists, would drastically change in the years ahead. He would become one of the strongest proponents of the Revolutionary cause, and a close associate with Massachusetts patriots such as Hancock and the Adamses. $700.

Item 36 is Moeurs des Sauvages Ameriquains... by Joseph Lafitau, a first edition published in 1724. Lafitau was a Jesuit who spent six years in Canada among the Iroquois, about whom he writes in great detail. He also makes a case for his belief that the Indians descended from Asian peoples. $6,000. Item 37 is De Zeden der Wilden van Amerika..., the 1731 first Dutch edition of the same work. $3,000.
