- by Bruce E. McKinney

Charles II, King of England. Authorization for Edmund Andros to take possession of New York.

As a dealer Eric conducts his business as the Caren Archive, He is also a well-known collector. In 2001 the Newseum in Washington, DC acquired more than 30,000 of his newspapers to form the core of its permanent collection. He is also the CEO of Retrographics Publishing, author of numerous books, and former director of the Ephemera Society of America.

Recently asked for his perspective and reasons for selling he offered “I have always sold, sometimes as a dealer and sometimes as a consignor.  I have also built and sold complete collections.  I love to buy and always will.  But sometimes you have to sell because the rooms fill, the floors begin to sag and the wife becomes wistful.  At such moments, and this is one, I become a seller. Buying and selling are two sides of the same coin and so long as I breathe the coin will be in the air.”
